My kids went to a children’s party at a very familiar place for most kids. This time the favorite mascots were out on full force. But why isn’t my little girl too happy about it?

In fact, a few weeks later, she still tells me in a hurt tone that I left her and she could see the “characters” (that’s what she calls the mascots). I actually left her with her grandma while I try to help my sister-in-law get their family pictures taken, but to her of course, that doesn’t count, sigh…

Most of us are so busy that we really have to Make Time! to be with and play with our kids. If we are not conscious of it the day may pass without being there for them, the week will have gone by and we have not really connected, and worse their childhood may be over before we even played with them in the rain.

Make the time to play!

When kids are still too small…

Bring your child to a safer but still historical place

Help them write or draw how they feel

Quietly pray
Share the images… then explain when they become older.

Celebrate your inner nanayhood,
Theresa

If you or your baby has skin asthma, you know how frustrating it can be. Because of my daughter, we slowly embraced homeopathy and natural ways of healing. There are expensive and not so expensive ways to deal with skin asthma. Imported and local, complex preparations and simple herbal concoctions.

As you can see, we really use the stuff! The Weleda brand is imported and quite expensive, each costs about P1000 per tube. While the Oleia oil is local and a bit more affordable.
Here is a list of the herbal and natural methods we were able to do with a lot of relief for my little girl.

I have been asking that question for almost 4 years now. My little girl had it since she was a few months old. It was even misdiagnosed as ringworm of all things! But we were lucky to get in touch with a great pedia-derma who also had the same complaint since she was a little girl as well, so I felt we were in good hands.

Believe it or not, just a few teaspoons of Virgin coconut oil and we were able to see marked improvement. My mother recommended we us Peter Paul because she saw it featured in a TV show and according to her their process and plant is very sanitary.

I know, i know… with the swine flu scare in full swing, such a thought may seem to be unthinkable. But you can actually let your children play in the rain with some precautions if you are really concerned.

When your children are going boinkers from staying indoors for days on end, this is actually the best activity there is.

Traditionally, we celebrate the falling of the teeth with a visit from the tooth fairy who exchanges money for the tooth that is left under pillows.
But that tradition does not sit well with me, so for my son, Juan, I made a little pouch instead. Why a pouch?

Our school just had its annual community meeting yesterday. Yes I typed it right, a community meeting. Is there such a thing? well actually… yes there is.
It’s one of those things that made Manila Waldorf a home not only for my children, for us parents, but even for the grandparents. It’s during these sessions that important matters regarding the school, its curriculum and future are discussed and voted upon by all the member-families, a.k.a. everyone with children enrolled.

Manila Waldorf 2009 Community meeting
Tuition fee increase? Can you think of a school that will call its parents to discuss possible tuition fee increase? Yes, we also had that meeting a few years back. Don’t we just get a memo about the tuition fee increase and bear with it? Not with our school, apparently.

So your child is ready for school. Did you get teary-eyed as you watch him walk through the school gates or the classroom doors? You are not alone. Letting go is really hard.
We were lucky, we were given these 3 simple steps by a very wise lady:
- Put myself at ease because my son is in good hands,
- Let my husband bring my little boy to school, just the two of them
- Let go and feel with certainty that he will be all right.

NO, NO, NOooooo!!!!

I’m sure we have heard that much more than we want to. Sometimes it really becomes a battle of wills just to get dressed and that’s just in the morning. It’s enough to make me raise my hands in surrender! But, instead of yelling at the top of my lungs, I take a deep breath and start all over again.
